Some of the Finished Projects
The multimodal visual analysis in which a theme is interpreted visually. These are the projects that resulted from the multimodal analysis project. Students will meet individually with the teacher to explain (oral) the rationales used in the creation of their projects, the analysis and semiotics at play and defend their choices as representative of theme within the texts studied. An in-class written, multi-paragraph response will also be provided by each student.
Here we can see examples of some of the projects created by the English 12 students studying these three works, Akutagawa's "Rashomon," and "In a Grove" and Kurosawa's film _Rashomon_. Using project guidelines (see Gallery: Project Requirements), students approach the task in a variety of ways and with variety in materials, all of which allow semiotic analysis of the texts and the linking of a common theme, though themes vary.
