Childhood
Charles Babbage was born on December 26 1791. It is unknown where Mr. Babbage, mathematician was born, but he was likely born at 44 Crosby Row, Walworth Road, Mayborne, London, England which was the house of his parents, Benjamin Babbage and Betsy Plumleigh Babbage.Over the course of Babbage?s childhood he was not as famous as he was portrayed in adulthood and he had very ill health. Babbage also had a life-threatening fever at the age of 8.
Education
Benjamin Babbage, Charles's father was a very wealthy man and therefore could afford to pay private tutors for the education of his son. Charles had private tutors and went to several private schools for his elementary education, but a severe fever at the age of 8 caused him to be sent to a country school in Alphington to recover from his illness. For his later education he was taught by private tutors due to his health issues for some time. After a while, he was enrolled into a 30-student academy in Holmwood. After leaving the academy he was tutored by 2 more private tutors, who he learned a tremendous amount from, and from which he learned the classics of mathematics enough to be able to be accepted into Trinity College at Cambridge University. Babbage was seriously disappointed in the amount of mathematical institution available at the school, so he and a couple of friends formed the Analytical Society. Babbage was transferred to Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1812 as the top mathematician. Although he was the top mathematician he did not graduate with honours. Instead, he graduated in 1814 with an honorary degree without examination.
