This scene is separated into four parts. The first part is the initial dialogue between Torvald and Nora. Their dialogue...develops a strong impression of how they interact, on many levels.... In the second part, Rand and Torvald switch roles at the paino, so that Tovald can improve how he teaches [Nora]. This is significant because it further depicts Torvald as a father figure, constantly seeking to "improve" Nora.... The third part constitutes a break from the organization of their friendship and forshadows the disorder that is to develp in the third act. The fourth part expresses Nora's contemplations, suggesting her development towards recognizing her own needs, In the end, however, she again acts, apparently, as though her will is subjugated to Torvald's, and she defines herself as his "lark".
