The "How Things Grow" integrated unit had to be carefully thought out because growth and community are both concepts and in order to materialize both concepts for this subject, the students had a shoebox community project.
Again, the representation of knowledge was visual, but before adding pieces to the community, the students had a chance to explore their community through field trips and a community member visit.

The unit was concluded in two ways: there was a bulletin board display and a slideshow presentation of all the places and people we'd met through our explorations.
